May 7, 2018A story of hope
Habakkuk is a short a chapter in the Bible, but his story is one of hope and perseverance. The state of his nation is much like we are currently experiencing. They have turned their backs on God, yet Habakkuk keeps his hope on God.
Have you ever read Habakkuk?
It’s a great book of the Bible! A short but encouraging read, especially in the day and age we are living in. The book takes place in a time when Habakkuk was in so much despair while looking at the state of Israel. Much like today, just turn on the news and within seconds, your heart begins to become burdened by the lack of hope and faith in God that our society has.
How can your heart not be burdened?
Well, that’s what Habakkuk felt. In fact, he got so disheartened that he began to lose sight of the hope we have in God. He was so burdened by the circumstances of the nation, that he began to question why God wasn’t intervening. God, in his glorious splendor, responds to Habakkuk by reminding him of the power and confident hope he has in the Lord. In chapter 2 verse 14 it says, “as the waters fill the sea so shall the Glory of God cover the earth!” I love it. His light does overcome the darkness!
As Habakkuk is reminded of the greatness of God, all he can do is lift up songs of praise to Him. His Hope is restored and his grumbling and complaining is replaced with praise and adoration for the King. He began to look beyond his circumstance and look to the Most High from where our help comes from.
I know situations and circumstances can be overwhelming and disheartening at times, but where is your focus? In whom do you place your Hope?
Habakkuk 3:18-19 says, “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. He enables me to tread on the heights.”
Let’s stay focused on our confident Hope in The Lord, and rejoice in the power He holds!
